Riverside Elementary's computer lab still runs machines that were old when today's fifth-graders were born. Half of them no longer boot. In a district where 68% of students qualify for free lunch, school is the only place most of these kids can touch a computer.
We've partnered with a certified refurbisher: for $290 per unit we get business-offlease laptops with a fresh three-year warranty, loaded with Scratch, Python and office basics. $12,000 equips the lab with 20 machines, a charging cart, and a spare-parts kit.
The PTA has already committed to running a weekly code club once the lab is live, and a local software company has volunteered mentors. We just need the machines.
Transparency note: quotes from the refurbisher and the district's IT sign-off are posted in the campaign updates.
