Bakers Against Hunger : a Community Oven for the Night Market

Every Saturday the night market throws away crates of perfectly good vegetables โ€” cosmetically imperfect, but still full of flavour. Meanwhile, 120 families in our district rely on the food bank's Wednesday queue.

Bakers Against Hunger builds a wood-fired community oven right at the market: volunteers bake flatbreads and slow stews from the surplus every Saturday evening, and anyone can eat for whatever they can pay โ€” including nothing.

The campaign funded the oven build, a weather canopy, and the first six months of firewood and staples. We reached the goal in month two โ€” thank you. The oven fired up in spring and now serves 120+ meals every Saturday; the weekly menu is posted in the updates.
